[Burger & Wine Pairing] Cheeseburger Red from Rootstock Cellars

Following on from my Burger and Wine pairing post, where I outline the basics of matching the burger you're eating to grape varietals, I've started a regular feature on pairing specific wines to homemade burgers so you can replicate the experience at home.

The first wine I've got for you is an aptly named 'Cheeseburger Red' from Rootstock Cellars in California. The winery team there very kindly sent me a bottle to try. It's designed as a full-bodied red wine aiming to achieve perfect harmony when chowing down on an American cheeseburger.

I was alerted to the credentials of this burger by food blogger Paul Hart, and so finding my schedule clear on a Monday lunchtime, I promptly hopped on a Boris Bike and hot-wheeled my way over to Filthy McNasty's to get my fix. Here's how it went down...

Psychic Burger is a burger concept that's launched on the ground floor of Birthdays, Stoke Newington Road, Dalston, N16 8BJ, replacing previous incumbent Rita's Bar & Dining. It's from the people behind the White Rabbit (where the menu testing took place) and part-owned by Vice.

You must be Psychic, I DO want a burger...
I was invited by Psychic Burger to give their burgers the Hamburger Me! treatment and so duly headed into Dalston with The Brunette to see how it measures up to the best burgers in London.

[Review] Giraffe Burgers and Cocktails, James Street, W1U

The first rule of James Street is: eat burgers at Patty & Bun.

The second rule of James Street is: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES eat burgers at Giraffe Burgers & Cocktails.

I found myself wandering up James Street, behind Selfridges, on a Thursday evening hoping to get a quick bit of Patty & Bun burger action in before heading off to North London to see some friends. As I approached I realised I was staring down the barrel of a MAHOOSIVE queue.

The first mistake I made that evening was not sitting it out in the queue...
