[Special] Byron 'Miami Slice' Burger

From Tuesday 29 April, Byron's special of the month will be the Miami Slice burger.
Byron Miami Slice Burger
Inspired by Founder Tom Byng and Chef Fred Smith's recent tasting trip to the East Coast, the Miami Slice Burger pulls together the classic Byron 6oz patty, and a newly roadtested toasted sourdough bun, and adds super crunchy shoestring fries, melted American Cheese, a spicy paprika ketchup, and salami. It comes with a pot of pork scratchings and a tub of hot sauce on the side and it's effing moreish.

It's £9.95 and available at a Byron near you from 29 April 2014.

Eat it and you'll end up like me. Tough, Unique, Bad, Bodacious, Sassy (TUBBS) :)

Pepe's Peri Peri, Brick Lane

I'm pretty chuffed that I've been selected for the "Not Just Another Food Blogger" (NJAFB) award by hungryhouse, the online takeaway ordering service. This year's list features bloggers who are doing something above and beyond just reviewing places (like my burger infographics).

One of the perks of winning the awards meant I received a voucher for a takeaway 'on the house'. I'd heard some positive feedback about Pepe's Piri Piri, a chain of chicken joints across the UK, and ranked as one of London's best burger takeaways in the hungryhouse top takeaways 2014 , so one lunchtime put in my order.

[Review] Boom Burger, Notting Hill's Jamaican burger joint

Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, its burger time!

I promise that's my only reference to Cool Runnings in this post. But I had to, you see, as right on Portobello Road, and a short walk from Ladbroke Grove tube station is Jamaican burger joint Boom Burger.

I'd been invited down by Boom Burger to try out the menu, which I was pretty excited about. Walking from the tube, past Flyover, a bar pumping out Jamaican tunes with a clientele who were already leaping around at 6.15 on a Tuesday evening, I had a pang of nostalgia for the colourful, unconventional feel of an area I'd spent a fair bit of time in the early 2000s.

Then directly opposite me on Portobello Road is Boom Burger. It's pretty hard to miss with its red/green/yellow/black livery and a queue out the door.

So, onto the burger.

London Burger Bash - The Final - #LBBFinal

It's been a long road for London's best burger slingers - 18 months of heats and then down to four finalists on 6 April 2014.

Take a look at my brief photo story from the day.

[Infographic] Burgers are big business in the UK - but how big?

An infographic popped into my inbox the other day that gives a great overview of the burger boom experienced in the UK in 2013. It was created by Rangeland foods (purveyors of the terrifying sounding 'Flamed Steakburger') and in my view does a pretty good job of demonstrating how the humble burger has come to dominate menus across the country.

I've split out some of the more interesting sections here, but you can view the full infographic at the bottom of this post.

The Burger Boom:

Burgers are the number 1 menu item in the UK - outranking Pizza, Fish and Chips and Steak. They've always been my number 1, so thankfully others are starting to agree.
